The Councillors elected in June 2009 for the Brading, St Helens and Bembridge Ward are Patrick Joyce and Jonathan Bacon.

Jonathan Bacon

I attended school on the Island from 1978 - 1984 and subsequently studied law at the Polytechnic of Central London and Oxford University. I became a Barrister in 1989. I stopped practising in 1999 and joined the Law Commission. Since leaving it, I have taught trainee Barristers and acted as a consultant in legal education. In September 2009 I will take up a teaching post at Portsmouth University. and since 2004 I have been a trustee board member of the Isle of Wight Law Centre. I live in St Helens with my wife Alison and our daughter Francesca, who attends St Helens Primary School.

I am a member of the Scrutiny Committee and the Licensing Committee of the Isle of Wight Council. I am also currently the Chairman of St Helens Parish Council.

Please feel free to contact me. I do not currently run surgeries in the ward but can visit anyone who wishes to speak to me. I always aim to attend the meetings of Bembridge Parish Council, St Helens Parish Council and Brading Town Council and you are more than welcome to speak to me at these meetings.

Patrick Joyce

I have lived in St Helens for over 50 years, I am married to Angela and we have 3 children and 11 grandchildren. I spent 23 years in the Royal Navy and was a commissioned engineer officer in submarines. After leaving the RN I ran my own successful engineering business for 24 years and then retired

In 2001 I decided to stand as a County Councillor to give back something to the community that has given so much support to me and my family over the years.

I had the privilege of being a County Councillor for Brading/St Helens for eight years. I resigned from the Conservative Group in 2007 as I was not prepared to see election promises broken; I was not prepared to vote for the closure of local schools.

I was re-elected as an Independent in June 2009 to represent the enlarged Ward of Brading, St Helens and Bembridge.
