Click here for www.bradingstation.com In 2004 the Town Council initiated a project (Gateways) with the aim of completely restoring the Station buildings to their former Victorian glory, to include in the long term the restoration of the eastern platform, its buildings and signal box. The buildings are now open to the public as a Visitor Centre and Railway Heritage Exhibition. The Visitor Centre encourages people to come to Brading on the train and visit the many and varied interesting local attractions and to savour Brading’s rich heritage and environment. Phase 1 was completed in March 2006; this was the restoration of the buildings on the western platform. Every effort has been made to restore as near to original as possible, taking into account modern day needs and sustainability. Grants were secured from Leader +, South East England Development Agency and the Railway Heritage Trust. These funded the restoration, maintenance and staffing of the building. Phase 2 was completed in March 2010 and involved the restoration of the eastern platform, the buildings and the signal box. These buildings are open to the public three days a week throughoput the summer ( April - end of Sept) and on Saturdays form 1-am -3pm from Oct to Christmas. Volunteers offer guided tours around the Signal Box. The project is now working towatrds sustainability and now offers a shop on the eastern platform which stocks railway and transport books, gifts, cards, railway memorabillia etc and you can also purchase refreshments. All profit goes towards sustaining the project. Whilst at the Station you can look through the wealth of railway heritage information which is currently being collated and archived.
