Alison Eve - CHRISTMAS CONCERT A Christmas concert featuring Warwickshire-based harpist mezzo soprano singer Alison Eve is being held at St Marys Church, Brading on Wednesday, December 21st at 8.00pm. Alison will be performing a selection of well known songs with a Christmas and Midwinter theme, and is bringing two harps with her. This will be an evening of gentle, calming and spiritual music for midwinter tide. To find out more about Alison's music please go to www.alisoneve.co.uk The concert starts at 8.00pm and as usual teas, coffees and a wide selection of cakes will be available in the Church Hall during the interval. Tickets are £10.00 and are available in advance from Brading Post Office or by phoning 01983-730930. All profits will go to Church funds. As this is the last concert to be held at St Mary's this year, we would like to take this opportunity of thanking people for their support for the concerts and hope to see you all again in 2012. |

James Hickman and Dan Cassidy www.hickmanandcassidy.co.uk Saturday, November 12th at 8pm, sees the welcome return to St Mary's Church, Brading of James Hickman and Dan Cassidy after their succesful first visit last winter when they impressed the audience with their diverse range of songs and tunes, including Bluegrass, Cajun and Celtic material. Being a Transatlantic duo, their music is very much influenced by the traditions of both Britain and America.
James is from Shrewsbury in Shropshire. He is the lead singer and guitarist in the duo, and is an excellent interpreter of folksong With James will be fiddle player Dan Cassidy, from Maryland, USA -a very exciting, virtuoso musician. Dan is the brother of the late Eva Cassidy whose music has enjoyed enormous popularity in recent years. Dan appears on several of Eva's recordings. James and Dan released an excellent debut album last year which is called 'Severn Street'.
James and Dan will be supported by young Island singers Zephirine Critchley and Charlotte Callaghan. Refreshments - including a wonderful range of cakes - will be available in the adjacent Church Hall during the interval. On the morning after the concert - Saturday June 25th - Liz, Yvonne and Edel will be running music workshops in Brading. Liz and Yvonne will be running fiddle workshops to cover all levels of ability. Edel will be holding a concertina workshop. In addition, Dublin-based flute player Daire O'Neil will be taking a flute workshop. The workshops will run from 11.00am to 1pm. The cost of the workshops will be £18 each. On Thursday 28th April at 7pm, St Mary's Church- Brading, welcomes the very talented Vectis Youth Brass Band to the Church. Vectis Youth Brass Band were the winners of the Wessex Brass Band contest in January 2011. Brass Bands are very popular, and have attracted good audiences. Please come along and give these youngsters the support they deserve.The concert is free but a collection will be made (retiring collection) to raise funds for the Church, and also for the band who has to raise money to attend mainland competitions. We have some very talented musicians on the Island, so please come along and give them your full support. Refreshments will be served. The Church has disabled access and facilities in the Church Hall. Please come along and enjoy an evening which will uplift your spirits. Enjoy the wonderful surroundings and acoustics of this wonderful Grade 1 Historic Church. For more details of this, or any of the monthly concerts please Tel 407723 . From classical favourites and jazz greats to film scores and show-tunes, Exeter University Concert Band's repertoire has proved popular with audiences of all ages! Founded in 2005, EUCB is made up of a group of musicians with a real passion for the music they play, and it's dedicated committee has been headed for the last two years by Isle of Wight musician Emily Scotcher. The band has gone from strength to strength, hosting a series of sell-out concerts across Devon, going on a successful tour to Santander with Brittany Ferries, and performing at several high-profile events such as the National Children's Literature Festival. A tour to the Isle of Wight has been in the pipeline since 2009, and this year's trip was met with great enthusiasm; EUCB is always looking to forge links with musicians and audiences alike, and their concerts on the Island will feature several local musicians. No matter what your musical tastes, EUCB will provide an enjoyable afternoon of live entertainment for all, so treat yourselves, your families and your friends and come along!
