I came to England from Holland at the age of 17 and, prior to my recent retirement, spent some 40 years working with and for disturbed children and young people in various parts of the globe, more recently employed by the Isle of Wight Council in the field of Mental Health.
My interest? People! Particularly the people and town of Brading. I love reading and my wife tells me I have an obsessional interest in Opera. My aspirations? To serve the people and town of Brading, currently as Mayor.
Some years ago, I was approached by some very determined, ruthlessly persuasive ladies, irresistibly so, to stand for election for our town council. Reluctant agreement on my part followed (no one would vote for me anyway).
Today, I am privileged to be in a position, through and with the town council, to try to help to make our small part of the world a better place, for all of us and our children. And what is more, I enjoy it!

Social Wellbeing |
I was elected to Brading Town Council in 1995. I became a Councillor because I wanted to represent the views of all of the people and to help make Brading an even better place to live in. I have served as Mayor for two years (1997-99) and I am Deputy Mayor at present. I work closely with IW Councillors Patrick Joyce and Jonathan Bacon, giving advice and assistance to people in a variety of ways.
I am an Islander (my father’s family have lived on the IW since 1540!). I have four children and two grandchildren. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, participating in community events, swimming, the outdoors and organizing Jumble Sales to raise money for local organizations and people. Brading is a special community and I am proud to be a Councillor.

Born in Winchester, I moved my family from my home town of Basingstoke to Brading in 1987. I spent most of my working life as a Charge Nurse in Psychiatry.
Married with four grown-up children, I have one grandson and one expected in August. My interests are computing, education, music and transport, particularly railways. I am a Foundation Governor of Brading CE Primary School.
Brading is a wonderful place in which to live and bring up a family and I regard it as a great privilege to serve the community of Brading as a Councillor.

Community Engagement |
My career background is in Human Resource Management, with my main experience being gained working for London local authorities where I was lucky enough to work with a number of community groups.
I enjoy doing voluntary work, both locally in Brading and in Newport, utilising the skills I have gained. My interests include writing, bonsai trees, swimming and of course, socialising!
I became a Councillor because I enjoy being involved in community life and if I can put something back and make a difference, so much the better.

| I am originally from Rochdale and moved to the Isle of Wight in 1989. I have lived in Brading with my family for seventeen years. I work for the public sector trade union UNISON, and work in Newport. I was previously an Isle of Wight Councillor and was co-opted on to Brading Town Council in July 2009. I am particularly interested in health and social care and in services for children and young people in Brading.

| I was born in Chelmsford, Essex, but was brought up in a Village Post Office in Norfolk. The first six years after leaving school I worked in accounts, but realised I wanted to have more dealings with the public, so left to work in retail. I have worked in there ever since. In September 2004 I bought Brading Post Office where I remain as the Postmaster.I was elected as a councillor in September 2007. In my spare time I am involved with Brading Town Football Club ,arranging transport for away trips to the mainland. I currently sit on the council's audit commitee.

| I was born and brought up on the Island and had the privilege of living in Brading for 23 years. My twin sons were born in Brading and attended Brading Primary School. I became a Town Councillor in 1984 and have been lucky enough to be Mayor of this amazing Town on a number of occasions. I am passionate about the environment and about gardening and have happily been allowed to persue these interests with The Town Council. I was forced to leave the town when the house where I grew up was due to be sold out of the family, but my heart remains in Brading where I hope to continue to work to make this special Town, even better as it goes into the future.
