One of the Brading Centre’s rooms is now filled almost to overflowing with books donated by residents for residents in a remarkable and completely free service. It started on a small scale in what is now the Clerks’ office several years ago by asking people to donate books and then borrow from those donated by others. Soon a move to the larger room that is its present home proved essential as the total number of books passed the thousand mark! Contributing to over twenty catalogue categories, both fiction and non-fiction, most shelves are now double stacked with books. There’s no booking in or out; and there’s no limit on numbers borrowed or length of time for borrowing. It’s a wonderful resource accessible throughout the Centre’s opening hours. The library has more recently added a wide collection of jigsaws suitable for all ages that are also available for borrowing. The selection of children’s books has recently been expanded as a result of Stepping Stones staff bringing groups of their children to visit. |
